Hi, I’m Helen Ai He! I’m a Human-Computer Interaction researcher and artist. I was born in China and grew up in Canada. I did my PhD (Informatics) in Switzerland from 2012-2017 and now live in Germany. For a brief (but glorious!) stint, I worked in Kyoto, Japan. Here, you will find my random musings about technology, creativity, travel, culture, and purpose. I love good food, martial arts, jam sessions, making art, and authentic conversations about things that matter.

I am currently a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Data Experience Lab, Dept. of Computer Science at the University of Calgary (Canada) working with Prof. Sheelagh Carpendale and Prof. Wesley Willett (at the moment, I work remotely from Germany). Our project, in collaboration with the National Energy Board of Canada, explores  how visualizations of open government data can better empower and engage Canadians in their decisions around energy.

I am excited to be joining Dalhousie University (in Halifax, Canada) as an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) in the Human-Computer Interaction cluster, faculty of Computer Science in January 2020.

Thanks for stopping by!
