About

Hi, I’m Helen Ai He! I’m an Assistant Professor at the Interactions Lab (iLab) Dept. of Computer Science, University of Calgary. Previously, I was an Assistant Professor (Computer Science) at Dalhousie University.

I lead the C3 Lab, which explores the design of human-centered technologies to bridge Cultural barriers, improve Collaboration, and build Community. This research resides in the fields of Social Computing, Positive Computing, Inclusive Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Computer-Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW).  The C3 Lab is one of five research groups at the Interaction Lab. I am the Computer Science Representative for the Faculty of Science Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Leadership Club, and on the Faculty of Science Diversity and Equity Committee at the University of Calgary.

Aside from being a researcher, I’m also an avid artist. I was born in China and moved to Canada at a young age, developing a love of learning about different cultures. I did my PhD (Informatics) at the University of Zurich in Switzerland, an internship at NTT Communication Science Labs in Japan, and lived in Cologne, Germany for the last few years. My MSc (Computer Science) and BSc (Computer Science, Internship Program, Concentration in Computer Science) are from University of Calgary. I have also worked as a software developer in industry. I love good food, martial arts, climbing, jam sessions and living a creative, intentional life. Thanks for stopping by!
